Artist Bio

Schaefer/Miles, a truly unique husband and wife painting team,
began their successful collaboration in 1987 while on a painting
expedition along the West Coast of Florida.

At the age of nine, Wendy was introduced to oil paints and a lifelong passion was ignited.
In that year Wendy was recognized as a child prodigy by the local media. There was never
a doubt she would be an artist. After graduating from the Minneapolis College of Art and
Design, Wendy headed south to Florida searching for adventure.
As a lifelong resident of Wisconsin and the daughter of a dairy farmer, Wendy found the
tropical climate of Florida did not suit her sensibilities. She longed for the rolling
hills of her family farm and the pastoral life.

Kevin Miles' talent was recognized early when his first painting on canvas was selected
to be included in a national touring show. As the son of a military officer, Kevin grew
up in Alaska, Turkey and the east coast of the United States. Exposure to the finest
museums such as the National Gallery, the Metropolitan Museum and the Phillips Collection
inspired the young artist. Kevin fell under the spell of the greats as he studied Vermeer,
Rembrandt, Monet, Corot and Renoir. Kevin D. Miles attended the Maryland Institute College
of Art receiving a degree in Graphic Design in 1978. A brief stint at a major advertising
firm convinced the artist that he wanted the freedom of painting for paintings' sake.

Moving to Florida in 1986, Kevin hired Wendy to run a frame shop at a wholesale art supply
business he was managing. Wendy and Kevin spent hours discussing art. The artists found,
despite their differing backgrounds, they had amazingly similar tastes in painting. Their
love of nature and landscape painting took them on many painting dates. The flora and
fauna and the scenic vistas with amazing cloud formations inspired them. Within the year
the love-struck couple was wed.

Their first collaboration was a mural for the Town and Country Hospital in Tampa, Florida.
From the beginning the artists' differing styles meshed seamlessly. During the first showing
of the artists' collaborative works a fellow painter refused to believe that two separate
individuals had created the paintings.

In 1988 Wendy's father was retiring from the dairy business and offered the artists the
opportunity to use the farm buildings for studio space. Wendy and Kevin moved to Wisconsin
where they purchased the farm and currently maintain several buildings as part of their studio.
